Personal injury attorney serving injured people in west Michigan.

 Because accidents happen.

Regular office hours are Monday – Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
Other times are available by appointment, so don’t hesitate to call!

No one thinks it will happen to them … until it does.

Fact is, no matter how careful we try to be, serious accidents with serious injuries happen every day … to well-meaning people just going about their regular lives – when suddenly, the unthinkable happens.

And life is never the same.

I consider it an honor and privilege to serve as a personal injury attorney and take on big insurance on behalf of injured people who are owed and due financial compensation for the physical, mental, emotional and financial suffering their injuries cause.

I’ve never had a single client who wouldn’t rather turn time back to before their injury happened instead of getting a hefty insurance check.

That’s precisely why I fight so hard to get my personal injury clients every penny available under Michigan law: I can’t turn back time for them. I wish I could.

But I can make sure they have the fullest financial compensation possible under Michigan law … so they can achieve the fullest recovery possible, and not have to live in worry and fear of whatever their futures hold.

When you or a loved one are seriously injured in a Michigan car accident, you’ve got better things to do than figure out how to get what you’re owed from the insurance company.
Your main priority is focusing on your physical, mental & emotional recovery, or being there for your loved one. That absolutely comes first.
Click below to find out how I can navigate the maze of Michigan no-fault insurance, personal injury protection, un- or under-insured motorist and third party insurance claims on your behalf – so you can maximize your compensation and minimize your worry, fears, and stress:

Most of my workers comp clients are shocked to find that the benefits they end up with from their employer’s insurance company are far less than they what expected.
What’s worse, they also never expected an uphill battle against an employer they served for years, or the helplessness of being treated unfairly – which often gets in the way of their physical recovery.
You need the law on your side to win this epic battle between big business and individual rights.

1) I love helping people, and 2) I love serving as a personal injury attorney to do just that.

If you want to know more about me, you should probably just call me at
(269) 375-6224, because I’m really more interested in hearing your story
than I am in telling you mine!

But for those of you who are interested, here’s my story in a nutshell:

I got my undergraduate degree from Eisenhower College and my Juris Doctorate from Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State College of Law).

Having served internships with several different law firms as an undergraduate – and then working for area law firms to pay my way through law school – I had the benefits of both excellent mentors and an excellent education.

As a new lawyer, I was determined to prove myself and took any and every case assigned to me. My early career experience included serving as a defense lawyer, where I gained the invaluable courtroom trial experience that helped me become an exceptional trial attorney (some attorneys avoid court trials like the plague, but I thrive on them!).

In addition to strong courtroom skills, my defense attorney experiences also taught me two really important principles that shaped the direction of my professional legal career:

1) finding legal loopholes and technicalities to help defense clients avoid the full consequences of their actions made my clients feel good – but it did not make me feel good.

2) it was more important to me personally to use Michigan law to help innocent people get the help they really needed.

In short, being a defense attorney wasn’t the kind of law I wanted to practice.

That’s when I switched to practicing personal injury law exclusively.

I loved the idea that my legal skills and courtroom experience could be used to help people who truly needed and deserved it: people who were carelessly injured and needlessly suffering through no fault of their own.

To me, it was the proper use of the legal principles I took an oath to uphold and defend – and it aligned perfectly with my personal aspirations to use Michigan law to provide real help to people who did not have the information, education, or financial resources to get help any other way.

Truth be told, it’s hard for me to talk about my accomplishments, because what really matters to me isn’t what I’ve done to help previous clients – it’s what I can do to do help YOU.

Yet I am extremely happy to have single-handedly delivered over $200 million in financial recovery on behalf of my clients in west Michigan since I began practicing personal injury law.

One of my favorite cases is one in which I secured over 30 times what the insurance company offered my client in settlement – because truthfully, it burns me when insurance companies try to short-change people who are seriously injured and legally due full compensation for their injuries (not acknowledging the full rights of injured people’s claims just victimizes them all over again!).

That particular case is just one of many significant cases I’ve resolved through the courts or through being a tough settlement negotiator on my clients’ behalves over the past 30 + years. It – and hundreds of similar cases – are what inspire me to continue to take on insurance companies  and make sure my clients are compensated to the fullest extent possible under Michigan law.

I use that depth of experience to serve my personal injury clients every single day. It’s experience that helps me instinctively identify the unacknowledged claims, evasions, stall tactics, and excuses insurance companies use to short-change people who deserve every penny Michigan law allows as compensation for their injuries.

I could go on about my experience and hundreds of successful cases, but the truth is, it’s YOUR story – the one that’s happening to you right now – that really matters.

Suffice it to say that if I’ve been serving as a personal injury attorney in southwest Michigan for over 30 years – and am still as passionate about helping injured people today as I was on day one – I must be doing something right!

It may sound strange for someone who’s business is all about helping people get the highest financial compensation possible for the injuries they suffered, but for me, it really is a People First business.

My clients may work with me for several months or a year or longer, and the relationship we have is key.

My clients know they can speak to me in confidence, they will be treated with compassion and respect, that there’s no such thing as a bad question, and that I will do what I say I will do.

The financial recovery I can achieve for my clients is due and owed them, but the relationship of honesty, trust and respect we establish is priceless. I value it above all other aspects of my practice.

I find that giving back to the community is a good way to help myself as well as others, and am a current case evaluator for several area courts: I serrved for 2 years as a Borgess Hospital Patient Advocate, and am a regular attendee at the township and planning committee meetings where I live. I am also a participant and contributor to a number of local organizations – such as food, clothing, and shoe banks – whose values, compassion, and community impact are personally important to me.

If you made it this far because you or a loved one has been seriously injured and you need hope in your time of pain, frustration or confusion, I want to personally invite you to call me for a free legal consult.

There’s no obligation to continue working together, and I promise you’ll gain insightful and practical information that you can act on right away, whether we end up working together or not.

If we’re a good fit, we can arrange a personal meeting and figure things out from there.

“No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Call me and find out if I live up to the ideal Theodore Roosevelt spoke so eloquently many years ago.

I’m happy to give you answers to all your questions about your injury claim, let you know what to say and not say when dealing with your insurance company, and what your next steps need to be.

I’ll give it to you straight and help you in any way I can. All it will cost you is a bit of your time, and it will be time well spent for the advice you receive.

Regular office hours are Monday – Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Other times are available by appointment, so don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Two things about me you can take to the bank:

1) I love helping people, and 2) I love serving as a personal injury attorney to do just that.

NOT KNOWING THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS:

The time you have to file an injury claim depends on the type of claim you’re filing. So first, you need to understand the type of claim you have, and then whether Michigan’s one, two, or three year statute of limitations applies. Call me for answers!

DEALING WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY:

It’s natural to expect your Michigan no-fault company to be there for you when you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident. Unfortunately, you’re going to run into roadblocks, delays, and excuses when dealing with your insurance injury claim. Call me for help!

PROVING WHO WAS AT FAULT:

Identifying and being able to prove who was at fault is a major contributing factor in your personal injury claim. People aren’t always honest, witnesses get confused, and police reports from the car accident scene can be subject to interpretation. If you need help making sense out of it all,  call me!

What My clients say:

Client Results:

I’ve personally generated over $200 million in results for my clients, including several million dollar and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.

Personal injury lawyers secure financial compensation from insurance companies for people who have been injured through no fault of their own.

Some people hesitate to contact a personal injury lawyer because even though they were injured through someone else’s negligence, they feel bad about suing, or they don’t want to make the at-fault party’s life more difficult.

Rest assured that the financial compensation you’re entitled to doesn’t come out of the negligent party’s personal pocket, but from their insurance coverages. It’s the reason people carry insurance to begin with, and there’s no sense leaving the money you need in the hands of an insurance company who’s likely to be making billions every year. You need that money more than they do!

Personal injury clients get their best outcomes when working with an experienced trial attorney. Good personal injury attorneys excel in the courtroom, and start each case assuming it will go to court. That maximizes the strength of the client’s case from the beginning.

It also sends a clear message to insurance adjusters, who are more inclined to take trial attorneys seriously, while seeking to avoid having a lawsuit filed against their company.

Personal injury attorneys work on a contingency basis – meaning they don’t get paid until the case is finished. So you pay no attorney fees to have expert legal representation during the process of your case.

In Michigan, the law limits lawyer’s contingency fees to no more than 33% of the agreed on verdict or settlement.

Every case is different, depending on the complexities of your injuries, the attorney, and his or her reputation with insurance adjusters and Michigan courts.

It’s also important to note that not every lawsuit that’s filed goes to trial. We are only in control of what we do, so it can be difficult to predict what our opponents will do.

A good personal injury attorney will have several strategies to handle whatever the insurance company comes back with at every stage of the process.
For an overview of what to expect through the personal injury insurance claims legal process, please click here.

First and foremost, personal injury attorneys know the law, and how to use it to work in your favor. An experienced personal injury attorney makes sure you make every claim Michigan law allows.
Second, you don’t have to worry about dealing with all the insurance forms, properly filling them out, and making sure you file them by the specified deadlines.
For an injured person, keeping track of all that adds extra stress in an already stressful situation, and may even impede physical and emotional recovery – which is what the injured person really needs to be focused on.

There is absolutely no harm in asking. There are plenty of Michigan personal injury attorneys who are willing to give you a free case evaluation, including me. The best practice is to call 2 or 3, compare their feedback and schedule an in-person meeting with the one you feel best about.

The size of the law firm shouldn’t be a big factor in your decision, because you’re only going to be working with one lawyer, even at a firm that employs hundreds. It’s far more important to find an individual lawyer you feel good about working with.

In a smaller firm, that lawyer will be handling all the work on your case, not delegating parts of it to junior associates in order to train them, then answering back to you.

Make sure you ask who is going to be doing the actual work on your claim, and make sure you trust them and feel good about working with them, before agreeing to work with any lawyer.

Financial recovery from a serious personal injury depends on many factors, so there are no pat answers. In general, people who work with an accident attorney get 3 to 4 times as much as they can get on their own – so it’s best to get a free case evaluation from an experienced personal injury attorney, who can advise you specifically on the types of claims you can make.

Be cautious of anyone promising specific dollar amounts in your first meeting, because there is no way all your potential insurance claims or the value of those claims could be known in your initial meeting.
