You’re putting a significant portion of your life, hopes, pain and frustration in your personal injury attorney’s hands … so the most important thing you can do for yourself is choose an injury attorney you feel you can trust.
While the internet & email make it easy to shop around for a personal injury attorney, you should never agree to work with one you haven’t met with face to face. Even video conferencing can’t give you a real feel for a person, and you’re really going to want to know who it is you’re working with.
Legal injury claims can be lengthy processes – so ask a lot of questions (like, “How often can I call you?” and “How soon can I typically expect you to get back to me?”) and make sure you feel you can trust the person, their personality, their processes, and the direction they want to take your case before you hire that attorney.
Recovering from a serious physical injury is daunting enough.
Add to that getting fully compensated from the insurance company without legal help? Almost unbearable!
But getting legal help with your personal injury claim has it’s own set of challenges – including not being familiar with the twists and turns in the legal process.
Relax! While every personal injury claim is different, there are certain things every legal injury claim have in common.
Take a look at the information below, where I explain what happens so you can feel more comfortable with what to expect.
You have enough to deal with already!
If you have any questions about the personal injury claims process – or just want to talk your situation over – I’d love to hear from you!
Call for your no-cost, no-obligation case review – or just to talk over what happened to you or your loved one.
I’m here to help!
Personal injury claims can be complicated and take a lot of time … months or even years.
So be prepared to ride the emotional ups and downs of your injury claim over time. There will be days when you’ll feel like everything’s going your way, and days when you wonder why you’re bothering. It’s a normal part of the process.
Your personal injury attorney shouldn’t just be able to manage all the tasks on your behalf – he or she should also be able to help you manage your expectations and emotions, answer your questions, explain what the next step needs to be and why, and listen to your feedback.
The wheels of justice do turn, often painfully slowly. Do yourself a favor and be prepared to have some patience. Focus on getting better, or helping your loved one get better. And find a personal injury attorney you can count on to help you keep things in perspective!

Many injured people don’t know if they have any legal rights or not. Some may not think their injury is significant enough for a legal claim, but I’ve seen significant repercussions from seemingly minor injuries come up many months later.
I’m also an expert at identifying potential claims easily overlooked by less experienced personal injury attorneys, so don’t consider your injury not worth pursuing legally until you know all your potential claims.
It costs nothing to have a conversation about it, and it’s really best to talk it through right from the start – especially if you’re unsure!
I’ll take the confusion out of it for you and give you my honest legal opinion about your case, and what steps you need to take next.
Most claims will require some sort of investigation to prove who was at fault. My experience makes me a formidable expert at exposing the truth through thorough investigations, interviewing witnesses, and securing the evidence you need to prove your claims.
Once I have all the needed evidence, your claim is prepared and filed against the insurance company on your behalf. There’s no need for you to become an expert in filling out insurance claim forms, keeping track of filing deadlines, responding to questions, or dealing with insurance company red tape; I take care of all that for you, and keep you informed every step of the way.
You’ll always be informed of any action I take on your behalf. I’ll handle your claim with the highest degree of honesty and integrity, and treat you the same way.
Both settlements and trials can be challenging, but you’ll always know where you stand – and you’ll have me by your side, fighting on your behalf every step of the way.

NOT KNOWING THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS:
The time you have to file a claim depends on the type of injury claim you’re filing. So first, you need to understand the type of injury claim you have, and then whether Michigan’s one, two, or three year statute of limitations applies. Call me for statute of limitation answers in your particular injury claim!
DEALING WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY:
It’s natural to expect your Michigan no-fault company to be there for you when you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident. Unfortunately, you’re going to run into roadblocks, delays, and excuses when dealing with your car insurance injury claim. Call me for help!
PROVING WHO WAS AT FAULT:
Identifying and being able to prove who was at fault is a major contributing factor in your injury claim, on Michigan roads or off. People aren’t always honest, witnesses get confused, and police reports from the accident scene can be subject to interpretation. If you need help sorting it all out, call me.
I’ve personally generated over $200 million in results for my clients, including several million dollar and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.
First, personal injury attorneys know the injury law, and are going to make sure you make every claim Michigan law allows.
Second, you don’t have to worry about dealing with all the insurance forms, properly filling them out, and making sure you file them by the specified deadlines. Your personal injury will take care of all that for you.
For an injured person, keeping track of that adds extra stress in an already stressful situation, and may even impede physical and emotional recovery, which is what the injured person and their loved ones really needs to be focused on.
There are plenty of personal injury lawyers who are willing to give you a free case evaluation, including me. The best practice is to call 2 or 3 and schedule an in-person meeting with the one you feel best about working with.
It’s most important to find an individual injury lawyer you feel good about working with. In a smaller firm, that lawyer will be handling all the work on your case, not delegating parts of it to junior associates in order to train them. Make sure you ask who is going to be doing the actual work on your injury claim, and make sure you trust them and feel good about working with them, before agreeing to work with any personal injury lawyer!
Financial recovery from an injury claim depends on many factors, so there are no pat answers. In general, people who work with a personal injury attorney get 3 to 4 times as much as they can get on their own – so it’s best to get a free case evaluation from a qualified and experienced personal injury attorney, who can advise you specifically on the types of claims you can make.
Both attorneys and trial lawyers have law degrees and passed their state’s bar exam. While both can give legal advice, only trial lawyers have courtroom experience in front of judge and jury.
Insurance companies prefer to avoid being taken to court, which is why working with an experienced personal injury trial attorney can provide clients with their strongest possible case right from the start.
Clients get their best outcomes when working with a courtroom attorney. Good personal injury attorneys with courtroom experience start each case assuming the case will go to court, which maximizes the strength of the client’s case from the beginning.
It also sends a clear message to insurance adjusters, who are more inclined to take trial attorneys seriously based on the strength of their courtroom reputation, while they seek to avoid having a lawsuit filed against their company.
Personal injury attorneys work on a contingency basis, meaning they don’t get paid until the case is finished. In Michigan, the law limits contingency fees to no more than 33% of the agreed on verdict or settlement.
Every injury case is different, depending on the complexities of the injury, the case itself, the attorney, and his or her reputation with insurance adjusters and with the Michigan courts where they practice.
If you still have questions about the basic process or what you personally can expect, please feel free to call me! I’m happy to answer any questions you may have!
